Keepers of collective memories and combative voices of resistance, plena and bomba are centuries old traditions of Puerto Rican music and dance rooted in the African diasporic cultures of the Caribbean. In this interactive program, La Mixta goes a puro cuero (“pure skin-on-skin”) to evoke the spirit of bombazos and plenazos, community jams where song, drum and dance aim to unite, inspire and heal. Bring your dancing shoes and your singing voice to participate!
Each one-hour matinee features live performance, audience participation, Q&A, and amazing music.
