We’ll observe areas that might be flooded, discover where some birds take shelter, take photos to submit to the CA King Tides Project, and discuss how urban planners hope to protect the future of our shoreline.

King tides and storms often dump loads of floating trash onto the shoreline this time of year. We can protect wildlife and make our beach a more beautiful place by picking up some of it!
Late fall during high tide is a beautiful time to walk the shoreline, with great views, lots of wildlife to see, and some interesting history to discuss. 3.5 miles of flat walking through diverse landscapes.

Join us on the water during one of the highest tides of the year. We'll start with dry land instruction, then paddle our steady and stable craft on a group exploration of this lovely, rich shoreline.

Explore the waterfront's past and future during one of winter's highest tides
Join Exploratorium educators, KQED climate reporters, Grassroots Ecology and Port of San Francisco staff for a stroll along the waterfront at East Palo Alto's Cooley Landing to observe, photograph and discuss the king tide.

Start the new year off with a walking tour of the history and science of the Oakland Estuary. Local historian Dennis Evanosky and hydrology engineer Dr. Dane Behrens will talk about the historical significance of this waterway as well as the king tide phenomenon, sea level rise, and climate resilient strategies for our future.
The weekend of January 21st and 22nd will be the last opportunity to document the King Tides this season.
