The weekend of January 21st and 22nd will be the last opportunity to document the King Tides this season.
Wanting to give folks an opportunity to meet other Bay advocates, we decided to have a bit of a meet up for folks to come together to photograph the tides. Saturday we will be in Marin City (you can park in the Target parking lot) from 11 am - 12 pm.
We'll be meeting up in different areas of the Bay on both days to photograph the tides; feel free to join us or go to a shoreline near you to document your own unique tide experiences.
The intense storms we have been experiencing here in the Bay Area have even further exemplified how sea level rise can and will continue to create challenges in our region. Many of us have experienced first hand or seen in pictures the large waves, flooded shoreline communities, and failing infrastructure. With the severity of this storm on our minds, now is the time to get engaged to help our area prepare and adapt for the future impacts of sea level rise.
How it works:
Weather and safety permitting, participants are encouraged to go out to their local shorelines on the days of the King Tide (January 21st and 22nd) during the ideal time to observe these high tide events (find timing information in the project packet) and take photographs to contribute to a community story map that documents the effects of the tides throughout the Bay. To learn more about how to participate and take effective photos, you can watch our King Tides webinar recording and read through the project packet.
Please take a look at the weather before heading out, if there is light rain we will still be out. Please make sure to wear good shoes. If you have any questions, please email Dani Zacky.
