Cyber Garage Girls Win Big at the Google Developer Camp Hackathon!
/Congratulations to the Girls Make Apps team at Cyber Garage, who just won the top awards for Best Design and Best New Developer at the Developer Camp Hackathon at Google Developers Launchpad in San Francisco!
The team of high school girls pitched their original idea to create a social app to help people locate the best ice cream shop in their vicinity. “It was a brilliant experience for our team." said Claire Comins, one of the App teachers at Cyber Garage, "The girls built a great working prototype with a really sleek design. We are so proud of them!"
The team will now go on to compete in the Marin Hack for Health hackathon on April 1 in the Marin County Office of Education. The middle school Cyber Garage Girls are also hard at work preparing for the upcoming Technovation Challenge — an international competition to create apps that solve community problems. Way to go girls!
By middle school, many kids, especially girls, lose confidence in their ability to learn Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM). But it doesn’t have to be that way, as the Cyber Garage team has proven!
At Cyber Garage, a new Makerspace & Tech Lab in San Anselmo, the goal is to make all kids feel comfortable working with any type of technology and to give them the confidence to take on any design build or engineering challenge.
Cyber Garage offers classes, workshops and camps for K-12 that use the STEAM approach to help kids develop their full creative potential through technology and project-based learning. The goal is to make learning more fun and exciting — by giving kids the ability to think creatively and employ knowledge that is applicable to the real world, just like a scientist or engineer working in the field.
By providing hands-on opportunities to design, experiment, build and invent things from a young age, Cyber Garage helps kids realize that subjects that once seemed “too hard or boring” are now accessible…and FUN!
Not every kid needs to grow up to become a scientist, engineer or designer, but in this ever-changing world, everyone needs to grow up to think like one. Cyber Garage offers classes, camps and workshops that spark the imagination and help kids develop creative confidence, critical thinking, perseverance, collaboration, and communication skills, which set them up for success in school, and beyond.
Immerse your kids in S.T.E.A.M. at Cyber Garage with classes in Design & Build Engineering, Coding, Game Design, Digital Arts, Robotics and of course, App Development.
To celebrate the Girls Make Apps Team success, Cyber Garage is offering 20% OFF all spring classes including the middle school and high school Girls Make Apps class — now through Sunday. This is an exclusive offer to Ronnie's Awesome List readers only!
