From backyards to woodlands to across the continent, chances are that you'll hear the soothing coo-cooing of mourning doves. These year-round residents at China Camp can be identified by their brownish-gray backs and creamy light ochre to pinkish chest with highlights of iridescent pink and purple. The slender pointed tail distinguishes it from the non-native Eurasian collared dove, also found in Marin County.
Join naturalist Jerry Coe on a relaxing hike through an oak woodland in search of these and other birds. Jerry will show how to identify birds by overall shape and size, overall color, behavior, and habitat. He’ll also share tips on how to effectively use binoculars and bird guides.
