Sand Globe Creativity after a Beach Cleanup on Stinson Beach

  • Stinson Beach 10 Marine Way Stinson Beach, CA, 94970 United States (map)

Start with a beach cleanup from 1pm to 3pm, hosted by the National Park Service. Click the separate registration link for the cleanup on this page. Everything you need for the cleanup will be provided.

Then join in for sand globe instruction, play, and creations from 3pm-4pm.

Making sand globes feels like magic. Someone said, "It's like making a sand castle in the air." Creating sand art and playing with sand globes brings happiness, and connects us with the coast and each other. For more about sand globes, go to Sand Globes Worldwide .

Environmental artist Zach Pine will teach everyone to make sand globes (and encourage everyone to teach each other!) Then, as in all his collaborative create-with-nature gatherings, we'll make a spontaneously evolving art installation on the beach. We'll also play cooperative sand globe games like "pass the peas" and "large sand globe collider," and invent new ones. Learning to make your first sand globe takes about 5 minutes.

Accessibility: The gathering offers opportunities for everyone to participate and join in however they wish. See the GGNRA Accessibility Guide for more info including free (non-motorized) beach wheelchair reservations. https://www.nps.gov/goga/planyourvisit/accessibility.htm?

Meet on the beach below the central restrooms. Consider carpooling or public transport (Marin Transit).

Beach cleanup is rain or shine. Heavy rain would mean no sand-globing.
