MakeArt Family Day!

  • Museum of Craft and Design 2569 3rd Street San Francisco, CA, 94107 United States (map)

Design outside the lines at MakeArt Family Day! Explore the exhibitions with our self-led MakeArt Gallery Games and get hands-on with exciting activations all throughout the museum. From collaborative art-making and toddler tactiles, to interactive storytelling and guest artist instructors–MakeArt Family Day offers creativity for the whole family!

MakeArt Family Day welcomes visitors of all ages to experience a variety of exhibition-related activities!

In exploration of Robyn Horn: Material Illusions, local green woodcrafter Ian McNemar will demonstrate carving a spoon with knife and axe and also turning a bowl on a handmade, foot-powered lathe. Join in on the experience by safely engraving a wood keychain pendant, and experience the wood of many local tree species to see how they feel, smell, and react to force!

Get hands-on with Iris Eichenberg: When Words Fail. Visitors will create wearable art using polymer clay and found materials, and create a reflective portrait directly onto a personal mirror. Don’t forget to participate in our German word hunt so you can bring an expanded vocabulary back to your haus!

PLUS: Prep for back-to-school with Fjällräven San Francisco, who will be giving away a Kånkenback pack and carving knife kit to one raffle winner. Others will have a chance to win a Fjällräven hat and plenty of stickers. You must be present to win!
