Fogo Na Roupa will practice to afro-Brasilian Carnaval Rhythms played by the “Bateria” in preparation for the 44th Annual San Francisco Carnaval. The drum ensemble consists of traditional parading drums – this includes repiques, caixas, surdos, ganzas, and agogos, all playing the infectious rhythms of samba, reggae, and more.
Fogo Na Roupa Carnaval Rehearsal (Fogo Na Roupa Carnaval Ensayo Technical) will be held in two sessions in the Presidio at Graham Street and Moraga Street. The streets will be closed for these sessions and the public is invited to come by and enjoy the free performances.
This event is organized by Metzi Henriquez, and Jose Rivera, Co-Directors of Fogo Na Roupa since 2006. Metzi is also an inaugural member of the Presidio Activator Council, a group working with Presidio staff to incorporate art, culture, food, healing, wellness, and music into the opening season of Presidio Tunnel Tops so it’s an inclusive space for all made up of thirteen Bay Area activists and artists working with Presidio staff to incorporate art, culture, food, healing, wellness, and music into the opening season of Presidio Tunnel Tops so it’s an inclusive space for all.
Carnaval San Francisco – the free, two-day festival and grand parade featuring international music, dance, arts and crafts, and cuisine – will take place Memorial Day weekend, May 28 + 29, 2022, in San Francisco’s Calle 24 Latino Cultural District. This year’s theme is “Colores de Amor – Inclusivity, Family, and Community.”
