Asian American Parents Association (aapa.net), in collaboration with AAPI Silicon Valley (aapisv.com) and Bay Area Youth Initiative (bayouth.org), will organize and host a half day, outdoor, multicultural event in the month of May (tentative for May 14, 1pm-4pm) during AAPI heritage month to celebrate diversity and promote understanding and knowledge of the different Asian communities in the County of Santa Clara.
AAPA 's community partners, BAYouth and AAPI Silicon Valley, are student organizations who will bring a youth-led and youth/student perspective. BAYouth and AAPI SV student organization have previously been involved in organizing and participating in Stop Asian Hate rallies, donating to the homeless, and organizing the “I love my community” video-essay competition.
Our event program will include artistic performances and cultural booths to celebrate the unique contributions of various Asian community groups representing Santa Clara County’s diversity including groups from Korean, Chinese, Malaysian, and Indian communities.
The goal of the event is to unify the voices of the AAPI community and its allies, combating injustice, and creating a more accepting and inclusive County for all.
We will focus on inspiring the event participants to embrace diversity, intersectionality, and intergenerational unity while covering topics such as AAPI history in America to educate the public on the beauty of each culture and foster solidarity and cultural learning. The event will be a free event open to the public.
This project has been funded by County of Santa Clara's Division of Equity and Social Justice Community Engagement Mini-Grant, and is supported by County Supervisor Otto Lee's office.
