A charismatic sonero whose resonant voice evokes the legendary Cuban vocalist Beny Moré, Fito Reinoso is one of the finest practitioners of música cubana in North America. He learned to play a variety of instruments growing up in Havana, including tres, bass and guitar, but it was his vocal prowess that marked him for greatness. Fleeing his homeland during the 1980 Mariel boatlift, Reinoso eventually landed in the Bay Area, where he launched a creatively charged band that served as an essential proving ground for rising Cuban-born stars like pianist Omar Sosa and percussionist Jesús Díaz. A gifted songwriter, Reinoso explores an array of Cuban styles such as son, timba and rumba with Ritmo y Armonía, a stellar band directed by ace percussionist Patricio Angulo.
