No Bay Area ensemble has forged deeper ties to Ukrainian musicians and composers than Kitka, the revered all-women vocal ensemble known for working with artists across Eastern Europe and the Balkans. The women’s latest alliance with artists from the besieged nation is a collaboration with Balaklava Blues. Founded by Mark and Marichka Marczyk, who met and fell in love amidst Ukraine’s 2014 Orange Revolution, the Toronto-based project fuses Ukrainian polyphony and folk traditions with EDM, trap, dubstep and more.
