The Contemporary Jewish Museum
The Museum Teen Council aims to create meaningful opportunities for teens of all backgrounds to be involved at The Contemporary Jewish Museum. Teen Council members provide valuable feedback to current and upcoming museum teen programs, and gain valuable work experience while meeting peers and mentors and learning about art and culture!

Exploratorium
High School Explainers, the Exploratorium’s youngest employees, are a diverse group of students who engage visitors at exhibits, lead demonstrations, and run many museum operations. Some are interested in science; all have a spark for learning new things. In keeping with the Exploratorium’s philosophy, they build their own skills while learning to help others.

California Academy of Science
The Teen Advocates for Science Communication program (TASC Force) is a youth volunteer opportunity to learn about science and the natural world, engage with the Academy’s scientists and staff, and provide educational activities for the Academy’s annual 1.3 million visitors. The TASC Force welcomes 8th - 12thgrade students from across the San Francisco Bay Area to engage with science in fun and innovative experiences that build confidence, enhance science learning, and improve science communication skills.
Chabot Space & Science Center
Galaxy Explorers program for high school students offers hands-on, fun, community service work. Explorers perform live public science demonstrations and explain interactive exhibits. Assignments take place during weekends, holidays, and vacation periods. Galaxy Explorers also conduct exciting outreach programs at schools, community centers, and festivals.
The Walt Disney Family Museum
Teen Squad is a year-long volunteering opportunity for Bay Area youth between the ages of 15 and 18. These young volunteers honor Walt Disney’s life and legacy by engaging with the guest experience, participating in and supporting our educational programming, and assisting with the annual Teen Animation Festival International (TAFI). The Teen Squad volunteers are encouraged to experience and participate in every aspect of the museum as well as focusing on areas of particular interest to build self-confidence, improve communication skills, and broaden art and animation learning and understanding.
Legion of Honor and deYoung Museum
Museum Ambassadors are San Francisco public high school students who join the staff of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Museum Ambassadors represent the Museums to San Francisco youth and seniors. They lead art activities at the de Young museum with families and the general public. The topics for this summer will include the special exhibition Cult of the Machine and the permanent collections.
Asian Art Museum
The Art Speak internship offers on-the-job training and monthly stipends to six high school students in grades 10–12. Interns discover Asian art and cultural traditions, and learn from local artists and arts organizations, conduct informational interviews with museum staff to explore careers in the arts, and develop their leadership skills creating and leading art activities with the general public.
The Art Speak internship is a paid ten-month experience that runs from August 2018–May 2019. Interns are onsite Thursdays after school and Sundays, with occasional Saturdays as needed, and are expected to commit six to eight hours each week.
SFMOMA
The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA)’s internship programs give students a unique opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at the day-to-day operations of one of the country’s leading modern and contemporary art museums. If you are a college student or recent graduate interested in learning more about how museums work, are considering academic credit, or hoping to pursue a career at the museum, an internship at SFMOMA is an excellent first step.
Oakland Zoo
Teen Assistants (T.A.) Love animals and kids? We need your help! Come to camp as a Teen Assistant and spend three weeks helping to create a fun and exciting experience for campers. Help lead games, crafts and more—all while earning community service hours! Please note: This volunteer position does not offer hands-on experience with any animals.
San Francisco Zoo
The Zoo supports future conservation action through engaging youth development volunteer opportunities. We have popular summer and year-round programs that are designed to be fun and educational while building job readiness skills and inspiring youth to appreciate, care for, and conserve nature.
San Francisco Botanical Garden
The minimum age for most volunteer roles is 16. Teens aged 14-18 are invited to participate with the Childrens Garden Green Team, Saturday mornings from 10am-1pm. Complete the volunteer application, bring a signed minor consent form, and join us on Saturday mornings!
We invite families to get involved with us through our Bean Sprouts Family Days program, Saturdays from 1-4pm, April through October. Opportunities for hands-on activities include maintaining parts of the garden and nature based crafts. No preregistration required.
