Teen Review: Bolshoi Ballet Presents The Nutcracker by Nicole Fuches
On Sunday, December 23rd, the Bolshoi Ballet performed its 99th Nutcracker, and broadcasted it live from Moscow to various cinemas all over the world. I was lucky enough to watch it from The Lark Theater in Larkspur, and it was a packed house of aspiring young ballerinas, various families, and a few retired dancers.
What I found interesting was that this was the only variation I have seen that does not include a Sugar Plum Fairy, nor a Rose Queen, and Clara's name is Marie. Differences aside, it was still one of the best versions I have seen due to the impeccable technique and apparent dedication that the dancers reflected in this production.
The Lark Theater invites audiences of all ages on a magical journey, through a world of enchantment, complete with dancing snowflakes and dolls that have come to life, accompanied by Tchaikovsky’s beloved score. The timeless holiday classic returns to the Bolshoi stage this December 30th for a second live broadcast. Guest will enjoy a Candy Cane Party, desserts and drinks in the lobby, and goodie bags for the kids! Ticket prices are $24 GA, $20 Seniors, $10 Student (18 and under).
The Lark Theater’s mission is to maintain the 1940 art deco theater as a nonprofit, single screen, state of the art community film center to enhance the artistic, cultural and social life of Marin County with quality independent film, international film, classic & family film, film festivals and multi-cultural events.
Founded in 1776, the Bolshoi is among the world's oldest ballet companies, and is currently recognized as one of the foremost ballet companies in the world.
