Step Two:  Is the person capable or have intent, i.e. to they have a plan?

Again, ASK THEM – “Do you have a plan?”

Suicidal capability means the person is now fearless to make an attempt, they have a car to drive them to the bridge, they have the pills to take, they intend to find the means.  They could also be extremely agitated, complain of not having slept and lacks clear thinking.  Fearlessness can be overlooked.  Most of us fear death, so if someone who has come to terms with the prospect of pain, they are feeling pretty capable.

Suicidal intent is even more than desire or capability.  Those who intend a behavior, are more likely to follow through.

A plan could be anything – jump off a bridge, take pills, jump in front of a train…

If NO:  Some people may have the idea, but no plan.  Your intervention is to help them seek immediate help.  Moderate to High Risk.
