Calling all families with fledglings ages 3 - 16! Bring your brood out to Point Reyes Station on Saturday, April 27 to learn more about bird life at the 10th anniversary of the Point Reyes Birding & Nature Festival.
The Environmental Action Committee of West Marin (EAC) is proud to partner with Amigos Alados and our sponsors to bring FREE youth and family programming with live bird ambassadors, binocular bootcamp, owl pellet dissection, games and two youth birding walks with naturalist Juan-Carlos Solis.
Our Youth & Family Programming will kick off with a special live bird presentation from The Bird Rescue Center of Sonoma County. Docents will bring two Live Bird Ambassadors — (a resident owl and hawk, whose permanent disabilities have made them non-releasable). This is a rare and memorable opportunity to see these wild birds up-close, and learn about our native bird species, their fascinating adaptations and the essential roles they play in our local ecosystems. The Bird Rescue Center of Sonoma County is a rehabilitation center for wild native birds. Their mission is to assist in the rescue, treatment and release of injured, orphaned or ill birds in the northern San Francisco Bay Area, and to educate the public regarding their ecological importance. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Afterwards join us for activities including:
A bird and wildlife touch table
Wildlife games and activities (coloring, mask making, bird origami and bird wishing tree stations, wing span and migration games)
Binocular Bootcamp 101 (learn how to use binoculars and about the 16 birds who migrate between Marin and Mexico). Some binoculars provided.
