Lowrider Takeover at Children’s Discovery Museum
“Low and slow” cars, motorcycles, and bicycles from local Boulevard Bombs will literally cruise into the Museum for a rich tapestry of self-expression, creativity, and storytelling on weekends throughout the month. From heritage to hopping and hydraulics, explore this spectacular display of San Jose’s cultural identity against the iconic Purple Museum inside and out. During select hours, car owners will accompany their vehicles to share their knowledge, history, and passion with visitors for a truly unique experience. They will also be at the museum every weekend from Sept 14 – October 13 – more details to come on specific dates.
Phillip Retamoza, known locally as the Purple Car Singer, will dazzle with his custom-designed purple 1952 Mercury Lowrider bomb (Mercster) – a fully equipped mobile entertainment center complete with his purple guitar. Retamoza will perform music sessions throughout the day.
Author and digital artist Ricardo Cortez will present his popular book, ABCs of Lowriding. This mastermind of “Low Rider Fever” will share the history of low-riding by hosting a Q & A and facilitating an art activity beginning at 11:00 a.m.
