In support of the Snapshot Cal Coast initiative, join us for a grassroots, smartphone-powered bioblitz to catalogue every species we can identify from the sandy beach to the depths of the Muir Beach tidepools!
All you need is the iNaturalist app on your phone and an account made (or a digital camera to upload photos later!), some rubber boots (or other shoes with good tread that can get wet!) and your curiosity. We'll spend a couple hours searching the tidepools for starfish, crabs, nudibranchs, seaweed, urchins... everything!
The tidepools are very slippery and require walking over uneven terrain. Be prepared to walk in water up to mid-shin. This event is recommended for children 6 and older, and people with good mobility.
The fun happens during the great morning low tide on Sunday, June 9th - one of the best low tides of the year! We'll meet in the Muir Beach parking lot at 9:00 am and head out to the tidepools from there.
