MNC Inspiring Success (formerly Mission Neighborhood Centers) will celebrate the grand opening of its 13th infant and toddler early education campus named in honor of Helen Fabela Chavez, an often-hidden civil rights activist and wife of the legendary farmworker leader Cesar Chavez. At a cost of $15 million, MNC converted the old Mission District Police Substation into a school for children aged three months to five. Funders of the program include the CA Department of Education, the Office of Head Start, the CA Department of Social Services, and the SF Department of Early Childhood (DEC), to serve children from multiple economic backgrounds.
MNC will hold a ribbon cutting, press conference, tours, and a fun day for families at the early education campus. With a special invitation to families in need of early care across the city.
Richard Ybarra, MNC CEO, spoke about the organization's broader mission: "For over 125 years, MNC has been a cornerstone for families in San Francisco. This early education campus, the other 12 serving children, plus eight that are providing additional services to other age groups, represents our unwavering commitment to equity, community, and courage—values that Helen Fabela Chavez lived every day of her life.”
