Miwok Cultural History & Traditional Games

Join us for this family-friendly program with our very special guest, Sky Road Webb, a Tomales Bay Miwok with the Museum of the American Indian in Novato. Sky will share the contemporary culture and history of indigenous Coast Miwok people who lived along the San Pedro Shoreline of San Pablo Bay for thousands of years.

Kids and grownups, get ready to have fun making your own traditional game. During this interactive experience, Sky will teach you how to create the components of the California Indian Black Walnut Dice Game and how to play the game. You'll need to have a few things on hand to make your own game:

  • 6 Walnut half shells or plastic bottle caps.

  • Play-doh or something similar.

  • Small beads or shells or other tiny decorative objects.

  • 11 sticks, about 12 inches long. Chopsticks will work.

  • Markers or colorful tape to decorate the sticks.

  • Large plate or flat basket.
