DIESEL, A Bookstore in Larkspur welcomes author Danielle Anderson-Craig and illustrator Carly Dooling to the store on Saturday, June 9th at 11:00am.
In conjunction with their picture book The Magic of We, Danielle and Carly will be hosting a workshop inviting kids to make their own "Magic Books" using figurative language to describe how they feel about the people in their own lives, including their own original illustrations. Carly will be giving an illustration demo and they will have music from the book too!
The Magic of We is author Danielle Anderson-Craig's tribute to her longtime partner, Grammy-winning musician Isaiah "Ikey" Owens, best known as the accomplished musician/producer from the gold-record selling Mars Volta and platinum-selling Jack White band. The book was written in response to Owens' untimely death from heart attack in October 2014 and includes two unreleased, exclusive Ikey Owens songs
The Magic of We is a children's picture book about a tender tale of blossoming friendship in which two children meet and are transported into a world where the ordinary becomes fantastic and the known becomes surreal as their shared experience creates unlimited imagination and play. The refrain "Being with you..." reverberates throughout the pages of detailed imagery, lush with color and imagination. It's a magical place that both kids and parents will recognize from their own experience of finding a kindred spirit. The Magic of We combines the magic of music and the music of words to describe the amazing feeling of finding someone who "fits" you.
Danielle Anderson-Craig graduated from the University of Southern California with an American Studies & Ethnicity/Philosophy degree. Her work as an educator of primary school-aged children spans over 15 years, teaching in California and Southern Thailand.
Carly Dooling is an illustrator based out of Oakland, California. She attended the University of California, Santa Cruz and received a BFA in Fine Art. She currently works as a Montessori Preschool teacher.
