Lagunitas School District Invites Bay Area Families to Celebrate the New Community School at their “SUPER BLOOM!” Themed Fundraiser, “Valley Fest”
Annual FREE Event to Feature Local Food, Music, Art and Family Fun in Beautiful West Marin
On May 18th, 2024 from 3pm-7pm at the Lagunitas School District’s Upper Campus (1 Lagunitas Road, San Geronimo, CA) LEAP will host a spring Festival that is open to the public and all are encouraged to join the fun! This year’s theme is “Super Bloom” and the event promises to be an outpouring of local music, food, art, games, crafts and more!
In addition to past favorites like the cake walk, indigo dye, carnival games and raffle, this year will also feature a book sale, flower sale, free family flow zone and flower crown craft station. Proceeds from the festival will support arts and enrichment programs at the school.
The “SUPER BLOOM!” theme was selected this year specifically to celebrate the way that the newly formed Lagunitas Community School is flourishing. In spring 2023 the School Board voted to merge the two previous elementary programs (Open Classroom and Montessori) into one school that combines the best of both philosophies. Following that decision, the School Board voted to change the name of the TK - 8th grade programs to the Lagunitas Community School to better reflect the school’s partnerships with the community and the close collaboration with the San Geronimo Community Center. Community Schools focus on the whole child and provide integrated services in partnership with the local community. As a result of the elementary merger, the District provided salary increases to teachers and classified staff and developed a new “Enrichment Hub” including studios for science, garden, art, music, and library. The hub features a fully equipped “Makerspace” that is in development for all grades and will integrate all aspects of the STEAM approach (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) with hands-on engaging projects.
The results of a year of work from the teachers, staff and parent volunteers can truly be seen and experienced on campus.
“Valley Fest is an outpouring of our incredible community and an incredible way to support the unique enrichment our school is able to offer. SUPER BLOOM! is the perfect theme for this year because the new school is truly thriving and in bloom!” said Karintha Averback, one of the event organizers
“We are excited to welcome the community to our beautiful campus to celebrate our thriving Community School and to raise critical funds to support arts and enrichment programs for kids in TK to 8th grade,” said Jessica O’Connell, LEAP board president.
