Celebrate Halloween with Science!

Start your Halloween early during Happy Creepy “Hall-oween.”

From pumpkin lifts in Ingenuity Challenges to giant catapult demonstrations with UC Berkeley’s Pioneers in Engineering program, you're sure to find the perfect way to celebrate with science.

Pumpkin Catapults with UC Berkeley’s PiE

Saturday, October 27
11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

Pumpkins will fly during this annual outdoor event featuring our friends from UC Berkeley’s Pioneers in Engineering (PiE) program.

Join us on the Hall’s C-level lawn and watch as a giant catapult sends pumpkins flying across the sky. Then, meet with the students from PiE to learn about the engineering behind this fun, and messy, demonstration.

Pumpkin Lifts in Ingenuity Challenges

Month of October
Tuesday–Sunday, 11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

Use the basics of engineering and physics to design, build, and test your own hydraulic lifts as part of our Ingenuity Challenges. Then, grab some pumpkins and test the strength of your hydraulic machine in this Halloween-themed activity for all ages.

Meet Spooky Critters

October 27
1:30–4:00 p.m.

The Hall’s Animal Discovery Room is getting in the Halloween spirit with the help of some of our spookier Animal Ambassadors.

Check out our collection of animal skeletons and brains, help us sort through mealworms (if you dare), and meet some of our creepier animals to learn the science behind their unique characteristics.
