Glen Park has felt like a neighborhood for a very long time. In fact, the first Glen Park all-neighborhood gathering took place 90 years ago, in 1911!
But the modern-day Festival came to life in 1997, created by a group of neighbors who had been talking about the neighborhood's many artists and craftspeople. "Wouldn't it be great for them to come together to exhibit their work in Glen Park?" the conversation went. "How about a street fair?" Thus, the Glen Park Festival began.
Since then, the Festival has evolved from a folksy, spontaneous neighborhood get-together to a well-planned annual event that combines fun and community support. The Festival brings residents, neighbors and friends together for a day of entertainment, music, dancing, and good food. The day promotes neighborhood restaurants, artists and craftspeople from Glen Park and well beyond.
But it does something more: The Glen Park Festival raises money for children's programs based in Glen Park. In 2014, the festival donated over $25,000 to fund equipment, field trips, educational programs and other enhancements in and around the neighborhood.
