Spring has brought an abundance of grandeur to the park. The hills are covered in a lush carpet of flowers and greenery, colorful migratory birds perform acrobatic feats in the air, and (we hope!) rainclouds part long enough to display luminous lunar spectacles in clear skies. Enjoy these wonders and more during this month’s full moon hike. We will ascend to a vantage point to view May’s “Flower Moon” as it crests over the East Bay hills near the Richmond – San Rafael Bridge. The “Flower Moon” is named for—you guessed it—the season’s plentiful wildflowers.
This hike follows a winding trail to a breathtaking 500-foot overlook. Wear sturdy hiking shoes and layer up for a late-spring evening. Remember your essentials: a flashlight or headlamp, a filled water bottle, and a camera or smartphone to capture this enchanting lunar display.
NOTE: Arrive by 9 p.m. to check in; hike starts promptly at 9:10 p.m. for a 10:10 p.m. moonrise.
