An adaptation of Australian novelist Tim Winton’s 1997 novel Blueback, this 2022 “fable for all ages” follows a young girl who befriends a large, old blue grouper fish while diving off the coast. Her relationship with the wild but gentle fish, which she nicknames Blueback, sets her on the course of becoming a marine biologist and activist, battling commercial forces determined to destructively alter Blueback’s habitat forever. Director: Robert Connolly (Australia 2023) 102 min.
