• DIY ART PROJECTS
• FREE SKELETAL FACE PAINTING
• FOOD TRUCKS
• BEER & WINE GARDEN
• MUSIC
At this time of year, when the veil between the living and dead is thought to be at its most diaphanous, take part in the eighth year of the Dìa de los Muertos Celebration. Gather in the heart of Downtown Berkeley on Kittredge Street and Harold Way on Thursday, November 2, 5-10PM to celebrate and remember those who have passed on.
Food, Music, Costumes
The event hosts food booths and trucks, a wine and beer garden at Maison Bleue, free skeletal face painting, and art and craft vendors. There are DIY art projects for kids and adults including ceramic or sugar skull painting. Mariachi music by Con Permiso and the hauntingly beautiful violin of Kippy Marks make the evening magical. Costumes and traditional Dìa de los Muertos papier maché giant heads are encouraged.
Ofrenda & Procession
This year several altars will be created by local artists and students from Berkeley City College. The public is invited to bring photos or stories of loved ones, candles, breads, or flowers to add to the large community ofrenda. A sidewalk candle light blessing of the altar is followed by a procession through the area along a path of strewn marigold petals.
Free admission
Take BART to the Downtown Berkeley station/Alston Way exit. Free valet bike parking by Spokes.
