*Why and how is this gathering happening?
In partnership with Kinetech Arts, NatureTrack, and Positive Ride, socially engaged environmental artist Zach Pine is hosting this joyful and playful gathering to strengthen our connection to the planet and each other, and inspire creative and communal environmental action.
Every participant is part of creating the gathering. We have a plan for the gathering, and the plan includes doing some unplanned things together!
Kinetech Arts is a San Francisco based non-profit organization of dancers, scientists, and digital artists that creates innovative and socially responsible performances. Kinetech Arts will contribute to the planning and improvisation scores.
NatureTrack is a Santa Barbara County based non-profit that fosters life-long fascination with nature through outdoor field trips, including wheelchair accessible trips using the Freedom Trax electric all-terrain wheelchair attachment.
Positive Ride is a San Luis Obispo County based non-profit that provides people with Freedom Trax devices to enjoy beaches and trails.
NatureTrack and Positive Ride leaders are helping to plan the gathering, will bring up to 10 Freedom Trax electric all-terrain wheelchair attachments (by advance reservation only, see below) to increase the accessibility of the gathering.
*What are beach propellers?
A beach propeller is a special shape made on the sand that feels great to make and to play on, solo and with others. Visit the beach propellers worldwide website to learn more, and see the video below. Multiple beach propellers can be joined together, multiple people can create and play on each one, and propellers can be expanded to include other shapes.
*What's the plan?
The gathering is for people of all ages and abilities. The plan includes learning to make beach propellers, group movement patterns on the propellers (choreography), movement games on the propellers (improvisational scores), and free creative time on and off the propellers. The tide will be very low, so we'll have lots of space!
Crissy Field has ample free parking, accessible restrooms, and an outdoor shower for rinsing off sand if needed. The #30 bus goes to Crissy Field.
*Info about the Freedom Trax electric all-terrain wheelchair attachment
Thanks to NatureTrack and Positive Ride, we'll have up to 10 Freedom Trax devices available BY ADVANCE RESERVATION ONLY for people whose particpation in the event would be enhanced by using the device. When registering, you will be asked if you need to reserve a device. TO RESERVE A DEVICE, YOU MUST USE THIS RESERVATION FORM, which includes details about the requirements for using the Freedom Trax device . Volunteer staff will assist users to mount the device and orient users to using it.
*Exactly where on the beach?
There is a creek crossing the beach, so the only route to get to our spot from the parking/restroom area is shown on the map image below.
