Morning Bird Walk | 10 am - 12 pm

Join Los Gatos Birdwatcher and Save The Bay for a fun and informative bird walk at the Palo Alto Baylands. This area is ideal for birding year-round, with peak activity from August to April when a variety of shorebirds are most abundant. It is also a reliable spot to observe the Ridgway’s Rail, a rare and endangered species that resides in the area throughout the year. Whether you’re a seasoned birder or a complete beginner, this walk is open to all ages and experience levels. Celebrate Bay Day with us and learn more about the diverse bird species that call the Baylands home. Save The Bay will provide binoculars for participants to borrow, so you can fully enjoy this unique birdwatching experience.

Morning QTPOC Nursery Program | 10 am - 12 pm

Free

This volunteer program is an affinity space for folks that identify as LGBTQ+ and Black, Indigenous or People of Color and is led by staff that hold those identities. Save The Bay is a Bay Area environmental non-profit working to protect and restore the San Francisco Bay for people and wildlife. One of the ways we strive to meet our mission is through community based stewardship led by our Habitat Restoration Team. Our Native Plant Nursery at the Palo Alto Baylands Preserve grows up to 20,000 plants per year that will eventually be planted out to one of our several restoration sites along the shoreline of the Bay. In volunteering with our Native Plant Nursery you’ll have the opportunity to connect with the diversity of plants and people that make the Bay Area so special.

Afternoon Horizontal Levee Tour | 12:30 - 2:30 pm

Free

Do you know how a horizontal levee works? These revolutionary nature-based solutions are changing the way we protect our shorelines from flooding and rising sea levels. By combining the function of a levee with restored native habitat along the slope, they buffer communities from flooding, provide refuge for local wildlife, and filter pollutants before they reach the Bay. Join us for a special program to learn about these projects first-hand and tour the site of Save The Bay's upcoming project at the Palo Alto Baylands.
