Astronomy Nights on Mt. Tamalpais

  • Cushing Memorial Theater Mill Valley, CA 94941 (map)

Unfortunately there is a red flag warning for North Bay (including Mt Tamalpais State Park) starting 8:00pm on Sat Oct 5. Our program scheduled for that evening has been cancelled.  Thank you for your support and participation during 2019 and look forward to bringing astronomy to the Mountain again in 2020.

Illuminating Dark Matter

Dark matter is the cosmic parent of all vast structures in the night sky, including our own Milky Way galaxy. Yet, we know so little about this mysterious stuff that constitutes over 80% of the material universe. This talk will illuminate our universe’s elusive dark matter, highlighting the ingenious methods that scientists use to search for it.

  • Print a Astronomy Program Parking Pass

  • Dress appropriately, it can be cold in the evenings on the mountain

  • Bring a flashlight to help navigate your way from the theater to the telescopes and cars

  • IF the weather is questionable the day of the event, call our hotline: 415-455-5370 after 3:30pm. Any cancellations will be posted. Note that cloudy weather and/or high winds may prevent observing through the telescopes, but generally don’t stop the lectures. Talks are cancelled only for rain or fire danger.
