An East County Tradition

Black Diamond Ballet returns for their 12th Annual Nutcracker. Under the direction of Pittsburg native, Sharon Sobel Idul, the production features professional ballet dancers from all over the Bay Area and a student cast of over 40. New and exciting choreography, costumes, and cultural dances that will dazzle and captivate all of East County. Celebrate the holidays with this timeless classic. We offer a Sensory friendly performance and three school-day performances for fieldtrips this holiday season.

    About the Company
    Black Diamond Ballet is dedicated to preserving and promoting classical ballet through professional performances, dance classes, and outreach demonstrations. Its primary purpose is to provide access with intentional focus on equity, representation, and inclusion through ballet to all in East Contra Costa County.

    Sensory-Friendly Performance (Dec. 7thth -1pm only)
    Approximate Running Time for Sensory-Friendly Show: 1 hr. (with one 20-min intermission)
    Sensory modifications are balanced with preserving an engaging theatre experience for all individuals and their families.

    The sensory-friendly performance is designed especially for individuals with autism spectrum disorders, sensory sensitivities, or other disabilities.
    - House lights will remain at a low level during the performance
    - Reduction of loud sounds
    - Reduction of flashing or jarring lights
    - Sensory support (fidgets, earplugs) are available to audience members upon request
    - A quiet area is designated in the lobby. Audience members may exit and re-enter as needed
    - A relaxed atmosphere: audience members can vocalize and talk throughout the performance
    - Audience members are welcome to bring their own manipulatives, seat cushions, comfort objects, and extra support items.
    - Tablets, smart phones, and other electronic devices will be allowed with headphones during the performance
