Shabbat at Jewseum: Hanukkah

  • Contemporary Jewish Museum 736 Mission Street San Francisco, CA, 94103 United States (map)

Celebrate Hanukkah with a day of art, stories, and wonder at The CJM. Enjoy a range of humorous and playful activities connecting with familiar traditions, including a Hanukkah cabaret featuring the funniest Hanukkah singalong with bandleader Marc Capelle, readings of favorite Hanukkah tales with Shabbos queen Miss Shugana, an “ugliest menorah” contest with New Lehrhaus, and more creative activities with Keshet, OneTable, JDC Entwine, and Jewish Family and Children's Services (JFCS).

Plus, join us for a talk with Adam Mansbach (author of Go the F**k to Sleep) as he introduces his hilarious new novel The Golem of Brooklyn—a hijinks-filled modern take on the golem of Ashkenazi Jewish mythology.

We also invite you to discover how light informs our lives and traditions through guided tours of First Light: Rituals of Glass and Neon Art and Radiant Practices: Illuminating Jewish Traditions, presenting awe-inspiring glass and neon artworks and Jewish ritual objects, and to connect with tradition as we welcome the third night of Hanukkah. Wise Sons Jewish Deli will also be selling their famous latkes and Hanukkah sufganiyot all day long.
