Join the Marine Science Institute for a 2-hour exploration of the San Francisco Bay aboard the 90-foot research vessel, the R.V. Robert G. Brownlee, and discover the life in the estuary and how we are connected to it. Working as a team, participants deploy a 16-foot trawl net to bring fish on board, set a Peterson Mud Grab to collect a sample of sediment from the bottom of the bay (the benthos) to examine closely to discover live invertebrates, and lastly, observe and discuss live plant and animal plankton using a microscope and digital display.
Remember to pack a lunch and hang around after your voyage for live music and dancing on our beachfront.
Must be at least 5 years old to board; all children must be accompanied and supervised by a registered adult; close-toed shoes required.
