Together we will be cleaning up beautiful and vital salt marsh habitat, home to hundreds of species of plants, birds, and other wildlife - including a number of endangered species.
Meet in the large parking lot behind the hangar buildings (we will have signs). Participants will have 2 options to choose from:
1) Remove trash, debris, and invasive weeds along the Bay Trail and adjacent wildlife corridor (directly across from the meeting location/parking area). Easy-moderate physical activity
2) Caravan together from the meeting location along site roads to the outer wetlands along the shore of San Pablo Bay (at the mouth of the wetland where the old levee was breached in 2014 to allow water back into the wetland area). After a ~15-minute drive, walk as a group to the bay shore, where we will spend the morning collecting trash and debris. Moderate-strenuous physical activity
Both options require some level of walking and bending. Snacks, water, and other beverages will be provided, along with equipment (gloves, buckets, tools, etc.) and optional background information/materials on the history and ecology of the site. Additional food and water, sun protection (hat, layers, sunscreen), and closed-toed shoes (that you don't mind getting dirty) are highly recommended. Come have fun in a special natural space!
