Inspired by the Ciclovía in Bogotá, Colombia, Sunday Streets is a series of free, fun events empowering local communities to transform 1-4 miles of car-congested streets into car-free community spaces for kids to play, seniors to stroll, organizations to connect and neighbors to meet.

Mission, March 10th, 11am-4pm, Duboce Ave to 26th St, Valencia Street.

Excelsior, March 31st, 11am-4pm, on Mission Street, from Silver Avenue to Geneva Avenue.

Tenderloin, April 14th, 11am-4pm, Larkin St, Ellis St, Jones St, Golden Gate Ave.

Bayview/Dogpatch, May 5th, 11am-4pm, main corridor of Third Street.

Sunset/Golden Gate Park, June 3rd, 11am-4pm, Outer Sunset and parts of Golden Gate Park, following the city’s western edge along the super-scenic Great Highway.

Mission, July 14th, 11am-4pm, Duboce Ave to 26th St, Valencia Street.

SOMA, August 18th, 11am-4pm, Folsom Street from Essex to 10th Street.

Tenderloin, September 8th, 11am-4pm, on Ellis and Golden Gate Ave.

Western Addition, September 22nd, 11am-4pm,  along Fillmore St and Baker St.

Excelsior, October 20th, 11am-4pm, Silver Avenue to Geneva Avenue.

Sunday Streets originated in Bogotá, Colombia in 1976. There, it is known as “Ciclovía”, a day of free, healthy activities that promote community in public streets. This concept has spread around the world and has been adopted by San Francisco and other cities across the country, openstreetsproject.org. Other Sunday Streets close to home include Berkeley, Oakland and Santa Cruz. Los Angeles has a huge event called CicLAvia (www.ciclavia.org).
