Music Adventures with The San Francisco Symphony
Experience the joy of a live orchestra with your children at The San Francisco Symphony’s family-friendly performances at Davies Symphony Hall in downtown San Francisco.
Music for Families series on Saturday April 28 & May 19 is the perfect way to introduce your child to the music of the symphony and a hand's on experience with a new instrument under the guidance of one of the talented and experienced musicians. Children can test drive the violin, trombone or cello, to name a few.
Plan to continue this experience by catching the incredible performance of the San Francisco Youth Orchestra on Sunday, March 4 & May 13. There is no better way to excel your child's musical education than to experience the passion from their talented peers across the Bay Area.
MUSIC FOR FAMILIES SERIES
Music for Families connects young audience members to world-renowned musicians in an engaging hands-on and ears-on environment that is both fun and educational. With only two more chances left this season, now is your chance to attend these awesome programs and give your budding musicians the opportunity to discover an array of activities before, during, and after the performance including coloring stations, instrument petting zoos, photo stations, piano mats, and more. Appropriate for ages 5 and up.
Music for Families: Work Hard, Play Hard—The Life of Composers and Conductors

Composing and conducting are big jobs: composers imagine the music and write it down, and conductors work with orchestras to bring the music to life. But how do they come up with and communicate their ideas, and what inspires their musical talents? Get a glimpse of the diverse backgrounds and creative lives of these musical magicians as the SF Symphony and Resident Conductor Christian Reif explore the music of Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, and other great American musical heroes.
Music for Families: The Bold and the Brave

What happens when composers think outside the box to create music with completely new and surprising sounds? The history of classical music is full of adventurous artists who did exactly that, from Haydn to Stravinsky to John Cage! This concert explores how these brave thinkers paved the way for future musical innovators, and even invites the audience to help the orchestra create a brand-new musical spectacle together!
Tickets: $27–$64 (Adults); Tickets for children age 17 and under are half-price.
The San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra (SFSYO) showcases over 100 of the Bay Area's most talented young instrumentalists, the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra performs great masterpieces of the symphony repertory.

This season SFSYO has partnered with the International Contemporary Ensemble to commission …within the shifting grounds … by Iranian composer Anahita Abbasi, and will give its world premiere performance at Davies Symphony Hall on March 4, to be live-streamed on the Symphony’s Facebook page at approximately 2:20pm PST.
