How to Make the Most of the Sausalito Art Festival

Get ready for three full days of spectacular artwork, headline music acts, gourmet food, children's entertainment at The Sausalito Art Festival. The place to be over Labor Day Weekend. More than 260 award-winning artists from around the country will line the waterfront village of Sausalito with world class art, celebrated entertainment lineup, special exhibitions and a cornucopia of gourmet food, wine, beer and specialty beverages. 

Now in its 66th year, the Sausalito Art Festival is one of the country’s premiere art events that attracts patrons because of its world class art, celebrated entertainment lineup, special exhibitions and a cornucopia of gourmet food, wine, beer and specialty beverages. The festival runs Saturday, September 1st through Monday September 3rd  (Labor Day.) Headline entertainment is included in the price of general admission. Tickets are available through Eventbrite with a $5 discount throughout the summer, until August 15th.   VIP tickets with exclusive seating, a private bar and two complimentary drinks, and a separate entrance at the gate, can be purchased HERE.  Tickets are also sold on site at the Festival. To visit the Sausalito Art Festival website, www.sausalitoartfestival.org

NEW for kids this year features Brian Kaplan from Mobile Makers Club to do serval kids activities including:

Strawbees is an award-winning, light-weight, 3 dimensional construction system for all ages. It is a kit based on simple units called Strawbees, that lets you connect straws to each other and build little to huge mechanical art forms.Augmented reality sandbox- Simply mold the sand by hand and the landscape comes to life! The sand is augmented in real-time with an elevation color map, topographic contour lines, and simulated water.

Kaleidoscopes or Teleidoscope- Make and take an open end kaleidoscope known as a teleidoscope that will transform the world you see. 

Big Face box- Put on the big face box and see what happens to your head and face. You will want to capture this with a photo!

Helicopters/Zipline Racers- Each child will have the opportunity build a rubber-band powered zip line racer or helicopter test/race them on a long wire or in the air. 

Solar Spin Art- Use the sun to power a spin art machine that will create beautiful unique art designs.  

Solar Water Fountains- The sun can also be tapped to power pump motors to move water as children will get an opportunity to experiment with this solar technology.

Mechanical Robotic Arms- These ingenious mechanical linkages using large popsicle sticks can be used to pick up objects or demonstrate a rocket heading for the moon. This is a very popular activity among all ages!

The 2018 Sausalito Art Festival will feature many new artists. 250 artists will be exhibiting their work in 2-D Mixed Media; 3-D Mixed Media; Ceramics; Digital Art; Drawing; Fiber Art; Functional Art; Glass; Jewelry; Painting; Photography; Printmaking; Sculpture and Woodwork.

250 award-winning artists from around the country and some 25,000 patrons flock to the waterfront village of Sausalito, California, on Labor Day weekend each year for the annual Sausalito Art Festival. Participating artists are selected by a rigorous jury process and exhibit a range of work, including painting, sculpture, drawing, ceramics, glass, fiber and fashion, wood, photography, mixed media and more.  

            The Festival is produced by the nonprofit Sausalito Art Festival Foundation, which supports year-round activities along with the annual Festival. Proceeds from the Festival support the local arts community as student scholarships, grants to non-profit arts organizations and community programs. Each year, over 1,500 community volunteers help keep the Festival running smoothly. www.sausalitoartfestival.org
