This celebration commemorates Mexico's 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. It’s a relatively minor holiday in Mexico but in the United States, Cinco de Mayo has become a celebration of Mexican culture. Now, with the facts out of the way, let’s get this party started.
