MLK2019: We Are In This Together.
Monday, January 21st is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, celebrating the life and achievements of one of the most influential American civil rights leaders. There are many enriching ways to commemorate Dr. King's legacy including marches, celebrations, volunteering opportunities, and various museum events. The events take place January 18 - 21 with free activities* and programs for all.

12:00pm – 5:00pm: Black & Brown Comix Arts Festival: celebrating the creativity of people of color in the comic arts and popular visual culture and is dedicated to the notion that all audiences deserve to be subject in the culture in which we participate. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day - Annual Celebration in Marin City, Featuring the Lighthouse Gospel Singers with Rev. Ulis Redic, Jr., Pashia Green, "Those Who Inspire" Ricardo's Health and Art Band, Racial Equality, Affordable Housing, Education, Empowerment of Youth, SMCSD, Sausalito and Tam Union Schools, Willow Creek Women Helping All People Academy.
Free Admission to MoAD, 11am-5pm, MoAD will celebrate the national observance of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday as a Day of Service, providing FREE admission to the museum and programs throughout the day.

VOLUNTEER
Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, 9am – 12pm, all ages, work together to spruce up landscaped areas at the Marin County Civic Center. All skills levels are welcome and no previous experience is necessary. Meet at the Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium, 10 Avenue of the Flags, San Rafael. Muir Beach: Habitat Restoration
Improve vital habitat for the coho salmon and other wildlife through planting and weeding projects.

Rancho Corral de Tierra: Habitat Restoration
Help restore grassland habitat for the endangered Hickman’s potentilla by planting native grasses and flowering plants.
Time: 10 am–1 pm
Age requirement: Family-friendly, ages 8 and up are welcome. Adult chaperones required for youth under the age of 15.

Fort Funston: Habitat Restoration
Plant native seedlings in rare dune habitat and clear brush on trails from winter storms at Fort Funston.
Time: 9am-noon
Age requirement: Family-friendly, volunteers ages 8 and up are welcome for the habitat restoration project. Ages 14 and up for the trail project. Adult chaperones required for youth under the age of 15.

A variety of projects will be available to choose from. Help with habitat restoration, campground care, landscaping and gardening, or forest maintenance.

Fort Mason: Historic Landscape and Site Maintenance
Join NPS Garderners at Fort Mason to help out with a variety of projects including vegetation removal and pruning at historic Black Point Battery, caring for native plants in the gardens of the Great Meadow, and sprucing up the site by removing litter.

Volunteer to help restore scenic garden paths recently freed from decades of overgrowth at Black Point. Projects include weeding, pruning, and uncovering buried walkways.

Join San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park and Aquarium of the Bay for a community and bay cleanup at Aquatic Park.
