Harvard's beloved Blonde takes the stage by pink storm in this fun upbeat story of self discovery. Legally Blonde, The Musical will take you from the sorority house to the halls of justice with Elle Woods (and, of course, her dog, Bruiser). I caught up with Elle (and Bruiser) for an exclusive Ronnie's Awesome List interview.
Elle Woods, tell us a little about where you are from.
My whole life up until I got into Harvard Law was rooted in sunny Southern California. I grew up in Malibu right on the beautiful beach with my mom and dad. Fun fact, Richard Simmons was my neighbor! Then, I stayed close to home for college attending UCLA where I was Sig Ep Sweetheart, president of the Delta Nu sorority, and founded the charity Shop For a Cause.
Where do you get your great fashion sense?
Well, I usually buy my clothes on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills with my Delta Nu sisters because I always need their advice on my major outfits. I am always drawn to pink clothes and accessories because pink is my signature color. Duh! Anyways, I am always caught up on what is trendy and fashionable through my fashion magazines that I keep on hand at any time! Honestly, I think fashion is such a big way of understanding someone and who they are. I dress in pink, bubbly clothes, because that’s my personality! Dress like your personality, and you yourself can have a great fashions sense.
Can you tell us a little about why you decided to pursue a law degree?
Well, at first it was all about chasing my ex boyfriend - Warner Huntington III - but then I realized that there was really more to it. Law is all about helping the underdog. All my life I was told that I was nothing but pretty and blonde, but with the help of my friends I managed to overcome those barriers and prove to people that I was more than my looks. After that experience, I have felt that I needed to help others conquer their own obstacles through law.
What is the most challenging part of life at Harvard?
I love Harvard, but the studying and classes can be a little dragging at times. Coming to Harvard, I didn’t know that I would have to be studying 6 hours a day just to barely make the average of my classes. However, my friends, Emmet and Paulette, are always there to study with me whenever I need them! They are beyond adorable! Because of my studying and hours in school, I am also never able to contact or chat with my best friends from UCLA Delta Nu sorority. It has been so weird not having them there beside me whenever I get my hair done or nails done. I miss them SO much!
Who is Bruiser, and how does he fit into your life at school?
He’s my adorable dog, but honestly he’s more like family! He’s a Gemini, just like me, and absolutely loves watching Glee. I always try to take him to class, but surprisingly my professors don’t think this is as good of an idea as I do. Crazy, right? Anyways, when I can’t take him with me he likes to relax in my dorm and spend time with Rufus, my friend Paulette’s sweet angel of a dog. They have such a great time together!
Thanks Elle and Bruiser. I can't wait to see you live on stage at The Playhouse in San Anselmo between November 10-19th.
