What's Happening This Weekend (January 9th-11th)
The Golden Gate Bridge will be closed this weekend to install a movable median barrier. Golden Gate bus service is in operation but check the website for service. To coincide with the scheduled installation of the movable median barrier, there is a special screening of "States of Grace" about the amazing recovery of Dr. Grace Dammann after a tragic head-on-head collision on the Golden Gate Bridge. The film will be playing January 8th at 7pm at the Smith Rafael Film Center in San Rafael with the filmmakers and the extraordinary Dr. Grace Dammann & Fu Schroeder in attendance. If you have not seen this film, book the babysitter and try to make sure you attend this tribute to the amazing resilience, devotion and overwhelming love of Grace, Fu & their very funny daughter Sabrina.
Also this weekend, one of my favorite childhood books, Around the World in 80 Days, comes to life on stage at the Marin Theatre Company in Mill Valley. Don't miss the antics of Mr. Phileas Fogg and his faithful servant Passepartout as they circumnavigate the globe in a mere 80 days! Little do they know that detective Fix of the Yard is on the case and in hot pursuit.
Also this weekend holiday ice skating season is wrapping up. Final skating days for the Marin on Ice and Embarcadero Ice Rink is January 11th. Union Square Holiday Ice Rink and The Little Ice Rink in Alameda close January 19th. Snoopy Ice Rink and Yerba Buena are open year round.
