Tips for the San Francisco Giants Victory Parade
2010, 2012 and now 2014! For the third time the San Francisco Giants are the World Series Champions! A victory parade is scheduled for October 31st - yes, on Halloween - rain or shine!
Beginning at Noon, the parade will start at Market and Steuart and continue down Market, go right at McAllister to the Civic Center Plaza. Expect huge crowds all along the parade route.
Here are 3 tips to help make the trip easier:
1. BRING RAIN GEAR. Currently, the forecast calls for 80% chance of rain during the time of the parade. Come prepared with proper rain attire, leave umbrellas at home, so they do not block anyone's view of the parade.
2. GET THERE EARLY.
TAKE PUBLIC TRANSIT: The Golden Gate Ferry has a special ferry service for the parade from Larkspur & Sausalito to the Embarcadero which is near the start of the parade. Advanced ticket purchase is highly recommended. NOTE: The parking lot at Larkspur is likely to be full. Plan to carpool or get dropped off. Bus service is available but heavy traffic in San Francisco is expected.
CAR: I do NOT recommend driving in. San Francisco is crowded on a regular day. With Halloween celebrations, the monthly critical mass group bike ride and the parade, be prepared for really heavy traffic. But if you travel in by car, the best place to park is in the Chinatown/North Beach area. It is only a couple of blocks walk to Steuart.
3. NAVIGATING SAN FRANCISCO. The city is not a big place and the parade route is only 1 1/2 miles. You can walk from one end of the parade route to the other in 30 minutes BUT the sidewalks will be packed so expect it to take a lot longer. Mayor Ed Lee, Giants players and executives will address the crowds at the Civic Center Plaza.
Get ready for another high energy parade with a sea of orange and black and tons of confetti to celebrate the 2014 World Series Champions, The San Francisco Giants!
