On The Fairy Trail
There is Elf on a Shelf at Christmas and a Leprechaun visit for St. Paddy’s Day; but do you know about the fairies that live around the Bay Area? I’ve been in communication with one and she told me a few secrets that I can’t wait to share with you. The secret is that fairies do exist and their favorite thing in the whole world is to receive letters and presents from kids.
It was a special treat to wander through Mill Valley and Golden Gate Park discovering little doors that appeared to be specially built for really small people. And if they are not home, leave a letter so they know you’ve paid them a visit.
Whisper your wish in the hole and it might come true. Here are the directions for the Fairy Trail:
Mill Valley
Mill Valley was chosen as the fourth best small town in the country by Smithsonian Magazine.
Within this town lies a minuscule town called Tiny Town. There is no door but there is a large hole where the fairies leave little presents to trade. Look for the hallowed opening in a tree locate near the corner of Sycamore and Locust.
The other fairy door is a very close neighbor located on the corner of Sycamore and La Goma. It's the the Fairy Fun House and you just might catch them playing hide and seek.
Golden Gate Park
This little fairy likes to make it a little more challenging for you to find. Locate the paved pathway that runs along the outside of the Japanese Tea Gardens on the Stowe Lake side, walk up the paved pathway for about 100 feet until you see a fallen eucalyptus log (approximately 18 feet long) that is broken in two. It will be on the left side of the path. At the end of this log is the fairy door!
The second door is located in the music concourse at Golden Gate Park between the California Academy of Science and DeYoung Museum. Stand in the middle and look for the white staircase that leads up to the DeYoung Museum. The door is on one of the trees facing the California Academy of Science.
If you should stumble upon other doors, please let us know but this fairy gave me special permission to share some hiding spots with you. Be aware that these are fairy doors and may magically move. But have fun searching and always be gentle and kind to the fairies.
